Michael Mendoza entered this world on February 3, 1983 in the East side of Los
Angeles. From a very young age, Michael took favor to the Hip Hop culture.
Influenced by his experiences growing up in streets, Strae took to the graffiti
element first. Taking on the name of Strae One, Strae developed underground fame
for his graffiti work in the streets. Influenced by music genres such as rock,
corridos, oldies, cumbias, reggae and of course rap, Strae began to develop his
MCing skills collectively incorporating a little from all the genres to
establish his own style. His street fame as a graffiti artist Strae One, soon
gave way to his fame as an MC; Straņo. As an MC, Straņo has developed quite a
unique poetic rhythmic style. This style blends his intense intellectual
ideologies with his hard earned street knowledge, giving the listener a well
delivered lyrical message. What separates him from other MCs is that the
messages he projects on each bar are intricately layered for his listeners
allowing him to appeal to a large audience. His lyrics can be taken in a literal
sense and youll get a meaning to what youre hearing. Straņo or Strae chooses to
focus on issues and subjects which characterize the young Latino male experience
in the inner city. In His Music Straņo portrays a realistic view covering
topics ranging from light hearted tales in the neighborhood to institutional
oppression. Drawing on his academic experiences, Straņo looks to share these
with his audience. By applying his learnings into every word he uses to
construct his rhymes, he is able to both connect with others that have had
similar experiences and those that are open to learning a new perspective
through ideas. All the while remaining true to what he believes in. Straņo
continually works to improve his abilities and perspective. He is deeply rooted
in the belief that in order to achieve anything in this world, hard work needs
to lead the way. This philosophy has led him to the point where his has refined
his art and is ready to deliver it to the masses. As the second artist to join
the Contraband Records label, Straņo will be instrumental in helping establish
the label as the home of Spanish Hip Hop. If you had to use one quote to
describe Strae as a person and artist it would be: Pase lo que pase, permanesco
siempre estable.
